Clarence and Vernice Matthews were the centers of attention for the day recently at Brandywine Living in Princeton.
The couple has dedicated so much of their time over the last five decades to helping others in the community, so a celebration was thrown to honor their 50 years of service.
Clarence and Vernice Matthews are known as pillars in the Trenton community for their community service and spiritual passion. Clarence’s achievements include being a pastor of The North Clinton Ave Church Of Christ in Trenton for 50 years and counting, working in radio ministry since 1971 (Sundays 8-8:30 am on WIMG 1300am) and serving various roles for 37 years with the City of Trenton Department of Housing and Development. Despite his busy schedule, he still always found time to stand in for Mayor Palmer in his absence to perform marriages.
Vernice Matthews was honored for her service to the church committee in facilitating fundraisers, Sunday School, educational seminars and public speaking for church functions. Alongside Clarence, she has served with the Stuyvesant Avenue Neighborhood Improvement Association dedicated to improving community living.
This native Trenton couple has been married for 63 years and has raised four children while actively serving their community. They relocated to Brandywine Living about 6 months ago
“I am very proud to be the daughter of Clarence and Vernice Matthews,” said Vonda Scipio. “They have poured all their love into their biological family, church family, and community family. I am honored to be part of such a great legacy. Thank you, Brandywine.”
The couple was honored by Reverend Robbie Henry and received a special plaque. Guests were able to enjoy light appetizers accompanied by a live vocal performance by Marcus Chaney in celebration of this special life milestone.
