Shrewsbury, NJ — The Kazoo Club of Brandywine Living at The Sycamore isn’t exclusive, but the members are certainly considered the “cool kids” of this luxury senior living community.
Every Thursday the club comes together with their custom t-shirts to hone their kazoo skills and enjoy lively camaraderie through music. After a year of practice the club hit the road during National Assisted Living Week for their first traveling concert hosted at Middletown Senior Center on Wednesday, September 13th. This national week celebrates seniors, their loved ones and industry team members who provide service or care. Their hard work and practice was rewarded with a full audience of loved ones and the local community showing their support.
The founder of the club is Brandywine resident Joe Bayer, an expert Kazoo player and club manager.
“I’ve had five kazoo bands over the last 30 years from being a gym teacher and still going now in my retirement. We at Brandywine had a great time practicing for the last 12 months every week. We even have membership cards, t-shirts, and a banner. The best part about the day was every single attendee got a kazoo and an honorary membership. They made it so fun and it turned into a giant singalong of classic songs. It was a sellout crowd in every way,” Joe explains.
Resident and Kazoo Club Member John Ricca was feeling left out before deciding to join in the practice.
He said, “I enjoy the Kazoo Club very much, we have a good leader. All of my friends were already in it and they were having such a good time, I envied them and wanted to join the fun. We all have such a good time as a group.”
“It truly has been so wonderful to watch this club grow from five residents to the 20+ we have now. The club hosts introverts, extroverts, and everyone in between. Everyone has their part. It really is a resident run club and I just feel so honored to be a part of watching the joy and laughter they share together. Hearing them practice from my office is also a hoot! We're so thankful Middletown Senior Center welcomed us with open arms and we cannot wait to get on the road again,”

The club is looking forward to more concert opportunities during their second year and continuing to add new residents to their roster.
